[Verse 1]
I walked down to the barnyard, heart full of love,
Thought I’d hug my Daisy, she’d fit like a glove.
But she turned her back and flicked her tail,
My tender hug attempt, well, it sure did fail!

[Chorus]
Cows don’t want no hugs, no pats on the head,
They just want that grass and a cozy bed.
You can try to cuddle, but they’ll just walk away,
Cows don’t need no love at the end of the day!

[Verse 2]
Tried to nuzzle ol’ Bessie, thought she’d be my friend,
But she looked at me like, “Boy, when’s this gonna end?”
I brought her sweet feed, tried to make her grin,
But all I got was a cold moo and a tail in the wind.

[Chorus]
Cows don’t want no hugs, no pats on the head,
They just want that grass and a cozy bed.
You can try to cuddle, but they’ll just walk away,
Cows don’t need no love at the end of the day!

[Bridge]
I thought we had a bond, a farmer’s cow romance,
But every time I hugged her, she wouldn’t give me a chance.
She’s got four stomachs, but no heart for me,
Guess I’ll take my love back to the chickens and the bees!

[Verse 3]
Now I see the truth, I’ve been living in a dream,
Cows ain’t emotional, or so it would seem.
They’ll eat your grass, and give you milk too,
But don’t expect a cuddle—just a big ol’ “Moo!”

[Chorus]
Cows don’t want no hugs, no pats on the head,
They just want that grass and a cozy bed.
You can try to cuddle, but they’ll just walk away,
Cows don’t need no love at the end of the day!

[Outro]
So, if you’re feelin’ lonely, don’t look to a cow,
They’ve got no time for feelings—they’re grazin’ right now.
Just tip your hat and give ‘em some space,
‘Cause cows don’t want no hugs, they just need their own place!

[Chorus Repeat with Fade]
Cows don’t want no hugs, no pats on the head,
They just want that grass and a cozy bed.
You can try to cuddle, but they’ll just walk away,
Cows don’t need no love at the end of the day!

Cowboy Poem

“Cows Don’t Want No Hugs”

By Alan Nafzger (1993)

Now gather ’round, let me tell ya a tale,
‘Bout a cow named Daisy and a hug that failed.
It ain’t just Daisy, it’s cows in a pack,
They don’t want affection, they don’t hug back.

I rode up one mornin’, with love in my heart,
Thought me and ol’ Bessie weren’t far apart.
But when I leaned in, hopin’ for a nudge,
She stepped away, like, “Cowboy, no fudge!”

Now I’m a man who’s worked cattle all day,
They’ll give you milk, but love? No way.
I thought I was her cowboy, her partner, her friend,
But Bessie just chewed, like, “When’s this gonna end?”

Oh, I tried again with ol’ Bossy Belle,
But I swear to you folks, it didn’t go well.
I reached out gentle, just a touch on her side,
She flicked her tail and left me denied.

You see, cows ain’t like horses, dogs, or cats,
They don’t sit by your side or tip their hats.
They’re not ones for kisses, or pats on the nose,
They prefer chewing cud, while you wring your woes.

I thought we had a bond, me and them steers,
We’d seen the seasons, through droughts and years.
But come to find out, it was all in my head,
Cows don’t want love, they just want to be fed.

Their eyes look blank, like they don’t much care,
They’ll take your hay and your good fresh air.
But hug ’em? Forget it, it ain’t in their creed,
They’re more about grass, that’s all that they need.

So here’s a lesson for cowboys today,
Don’t go huggin’ your cattle, it’s just not their way.
You can give ’em your labor, your sweat and your song,
But when it comes to affection, you got it all wrong.

They’ll stand in the pasture, they’ll chew and they’ll moo,
But love you back? Well, that’s somethin’ they just won’t do.
So tip your hat, give ’em some space,
’Cause cows don’t need huggin’ in this wide-open place.
